Picardy is a French region which consists of three departments: the Aisne, Oise, the Somme.
The etymology of the word Picardie is neither geographic nor history. The word appears in 1248, derived the word "Picard" ie "piocheur."
The Parisians called "piocheurs" all farmers living in forest areas north of Senlisis and Valois (where peasants were loggers), and in the north was called "Picards" all those who did not speak Flemish: Arras, Boulogne, Calais, Tournai cities were "Picardy."
